What you don't want to hear at Starbucks

"Hey Steffi, how do you make that?" ...right after your order was placed.

Luckily, Steffi said "Oh let me do it".
And for those who are curious, all I ordered was their shaken lemonade-iced tea.

For the record, if Joe is the barista at Safeway, you might want to re-think just how thirsty you really are!

Our task for the day...

Before Hubby left for work this morning, he tasked the Things with an assignment. He said "I want you to learn at least one thing today".

I fear it is back to the drawing board for Thing Two as he just came downstairs, grinning from ear to ear,
"Tell Dad I learned something".
"Yes, son, what would that be?"
"Oh how to spell dirty words on a calculator".

Yep, back to the drawing board he goes...(ed. note: still relieved to learn that boobs is a dirty word in the mind of an 8 year old)

Even better since it was free...

Yep, I'm probably the last chick in this city to see this flick. And since the kid working the ticket booth messed up my "5 buck club" card transaction and didn't feel like figuring out his mistake he told me "Oh just go on in...".
Yeah baby....everyone enjoys a bargain...and when you get to see a fabulously fun movie for free in the process, what's not to love?

Hard to imagine

That the child who complains the most about going to school each and every day, received a perfect attendance award. I was shocked, I tell you, simply SHOCKED. Because you know, I was certain I'd caved a time or two this past year but I guess not. I managed to send his whiney-hiney packing every.stinkin.day, thank you very much...

Here he is sporting his "cookerator" uniform while working with the wonderful Ms. Monika in the kitchen. Doesn't he look like a fry cook just waiting to be hired? Hopefully, that will only be a temporary gig for him. He's already demonstrating he's got a committment to getting the job done, even if he complains every.step.of.the.way!

Keeping things fair, Thing Two has again shared his wit and wisdom with us this Father's Day (just as he did for me on Mother's Day). Turning it over to you son,

  • He's as handsome as ...a model
  • He's as smart as ...Jimmy Neutron
  • He's as tall as ...a door
  • He's as funny as ...a clown
  • He's as happy as ...a rich guy
  • He's as strong as ...Indiana Jones
  • He's as hungry as ...a lion
  • He's as nice as ...ice cream!

I'd have to agree son...your dad is all that and more!!

12 on the 12th

A day filled with a little bit of this and a little bit of that...
0630: a last minute review...
0730: wishful snoozing
0930: 3rd time is the charm
A friendly PSA: you may have $ in the bank, but they can make you jump through some hoops to find the right branch that will release your $ to you.
0945: No turning back, she's ours
1215: off for a little me time

3:00: One short walk all alone for the boys, one GIANT step for the Helicopter Mom
3:15: Results of Me Time
4:00 Advil fails, will try something stronger
4:15: Reward for finishing homework early

5:00 Still wondering what this move is all about. Thing Two keeps you guessing that's for sure
6:00: What shall we name our new little Fraulein?

6:15: Haven't killed 'em off yet...3 weeks...we might be on our way to a new record. Remember, I am the Martha with the brown thumb...

Wordless Wednesday: TV all reruns? Gee I hadn't noticed

Summer time...the perfect time to pick up a good book (or two) and drift away. No need to worry about the cost of gas with these sort of get-away adventures!

Before we take him to the ballpark...

I'm thinking he'll need some remedial education when it comes to this summer time sport.
Their school was offering discounted Rockies tickets so I ordered some for our family. The event isn't until August but the younger one is already very excited about our family outing

"Oh, I hope we get seated near the 50 yard line"...
He quickly caught himself and answered his own question "Oh wait, that's football, isn't it?"

For which he replied "Well, then hopefully I'll see an Empire when I'm there"... and nope, he didn't catch this mistake.

As Hubby (who by the way, thanks ya'll for your well wishes, he's doing great) pointed out "Ya know, he only wants to go so he can have a hot dog, right?"

Uh d'uh...and why might you think I'm wanting to go? Hello...ballpark food...nothing beats it!

Popsicles for breakfast...

Have you ever wondered what it would take for you to tell your kids "I don't care what you eat for breakfast, just eat something?"...and when they inquire about Popsicles you mumble "sure whatever..."...

Well...I found my threshold this morning for such apathetic parenting...it is the knowledge that your loving husband has just "dropped" his bike and is en route to the hospital somewhere up in the High Country.

Yes, folks you read that right.. the phone rang shortly before 7 this morning (proving yet again that phone calls this early bring nothing but worry). First words were "I'm OK"....and in that fog of time stopping I learned that Hubby had hit some ice and the wheel went one way, Maria was pointed straight ahead and he soon found himself sliding in the opposite direction of the bike...luckily out of the path of traffic.

Fast forward to this evening...he really is OK...sustaining only a separated shoulder and is resting comfortable.

And for the most part, I think I'm OK too...the gin and tonic helped...as did the reality that the world is filled with some pretty decent folks....from the kind couple that stopped to help him (and transported him to the E.R.), to the tow truck driver that picked him up at the E.R. in Summit county and drove him all the way home (for non-locals, we're talking a 2 plus hr drive. Seriously, he went out of his way to bring Hubby home), to the friends that offered that welcome distraction of laughter throughout the day to the chocolate and gin that Eric and Judy delivered. We are truly blessed...and ever so grateful...

This blog will soon return to its regular scheduled postings about silly stuff. But just for today...I want to say Honey: I love you! Yes, my heart skipped several beats as I sat there and thought of all the what ifs. And I am thrilled with the reality of knowing that you will still be around to do the thing you do best: You bring joy and love as you make our family complete! There is no Chang Gang without a Papa Chang...and we're so happy that you really are ok! The boys? Well, they probably won't be so happy when Mom regains her composure and puts an end to the Popsicles for breakfast idea. But hey...what's more important? Popsicles or having Papa home? (don't answer that Thing One!)

It's not about luck he says....

On the way home, Thing Two started to open his brand new umbrella in the van

"Oh no, son, don't do that, it's bad luck to open an umbrella indoors"

"But Mom, I didn't think we believed in luck...I thought we believed in making responsible choices?"

Why wait til Wednesday: How to get a man to wash his hands

and no, we will not be remodeling our boys' bathroom with these sinks...thank you very much.

House Arrest

Yep, I'm under house arrest today. Voluntarily I might add...
Seems Hubby is expecting a package from Ms. FedEX that we think I have to sign for. Not wanting to take any chances, I'm using this as my perfectly valid excuse to do nothing.
Even if I hang out in the basement, I run the risk of missing hearing the door bell ring. (we hear it but then by the time we race upstairs, they've given up on us being home).

So, I'm stuck here, on the main floor of the house...just waiting.
Yes, indeed it is a tough life that Mrs. Chang leads some days but somebody has to do it.

Hope ya'll are having a slightly more productive day than I am.

P.S.: I just finished watching Georgia Rule. Ok, now I know of two "pretty actresses" that don't really act, but are lucky that their personalities are needed in way too many films. Jennifer Aniston and now Lindsey Lohan. Girls: you'd better be saving your earnings now because I just can't see your skill maturing into class acts. Pretty soon, someone younger, and as pretty with just as much edge to them will come along and be willing to work for less. I personally am eager to see this new actress because both of you...are so yesterday...

Nothing really important to say

Other than it has been another quiet weekend here at the house of Chang.

I was hoping to come up with something witty to say about why I don't like the pool this early in the season. But well...ick, all I can do is picture that new crop of teenagers who discovered the opposite sex this winter and suddenly playing Marco Polo in the deep end doesn't seem so innocent. And double ick when I realize that one day that will be my boys exploring the deep end of the pool with new found curiosity...I just don't think there is enough gin in my tonic for me to deal with that truth quite yet.

I made some chocolate chip cookies and like any good cul de sac mom, I offered them to the other youngsters in the front yard. Only, I asked the 3 year old "are you allergic to anything?" for which she said "I like cookies, I like your house"...I take that to mean that she's good to go on the cookies.

I finally finished a book...Peony in Love by Lisa See. Unless you are really into ghosts and the Ming dynasty you can pass on reading it yourself. Not sure what all the hoopla is about that book. We also tried to watch Golden Compass last night but I don't think I'm smart enough to follow such complicated fantasy tales. Give me your basic chick lit/flick and I'm happy.

See...not much worth reading but at least an update to the blog...
