Wordless Wednesday: In the beginning

Wordless Wednesday: Happy Campers

Thing Two (and a camera shy Thing One) were eager to try camping. Us parents having been there/done that found a compromise. They could camp in the back and we would sleep inside in the comforts of our king sized bed. Win-Win (except nobody really got much sleep...we forgot to turn off the sprinklers and we were a bit on the hyper vigilant side waiting for that middle of the night cry to come inside...which never happened but how were we to have known that?)

ISO: a new excuse

For being unmotivated.
I had an easy explanation for the past 2 weeks of limited domestic accomplishments: BEIJING.

But now? Anyone got some plausible explanation for why the dishwasher didn't get unloaded and laundry didn't get folded? And well...let's not even talk about how the vacuum cleaner canister rolled down the stairs and left a trail of its' contents in the path yesterday is STILL sitting there today. A day later my only comment has been "Boys, be careful on the steps, Mom made a mess".

Feeling so very UN-Martha this week....

Victory McDonald's

Olympic Commercial Challenge

I've been one slug of a housewife this week as I've watched way too much Olympic coverage. But one thing we've enjoyed almost as much as the events, were some of the commercials during the Opening Ceremonies.

This one made us all giggle...because well, we've all been there, right?

I challenge all my other Olympic crazed bloggin' buddies to go find your favorite commercial (they have everything on You Tube...even the awful pick up truck fiasco from the Atlanta games...when we all cringed thinking "Is this the best that we've got to show the world?") and share it with us.

For we have only another week or so where we can excuse our lazy ways on the Olympic Games!

Birthday Shout Out

Seems our virtual neighbor, Danielle, is having a birthday today....and well it would just be wrong for all of us Park View Mommas to miss this opportunity to tell our Aussie neighbor "Happy Birthday! Hope your day is a great one!

12 on the 12th: A little bit of this and a little bit of that

0800: It's Tuesday...let's see who showed up for coffee?
0805: Oh Hi, TZ! Enjoying your last few moments of summer break before nursing school starts back up?
And look, here's JG and SB. They don't blog but they could. They are good people with fun stories to tell. 0930: Say what you want, I'm a good wife (making a parts run for theBrigitta, she's getting a new windshield1030: Yeah, he's been in the same location for the 10 years we've used Ed. Jones but somehow today I got lost (traveling around Cherry Hills. Them is some pretty fancy houses in that 'hood!).
1100: all errands and no fun makes for a dull day. So let's see what fun stuff they have at my favorite paper store.
11:45: Seems I caught every stinkin' one of these today (red lights)

1200: You can barely see the sign on the fence but today was election day...primaries for us. Slow day, all the helpers seemed to clamor around me....as if I were the only one to pass through in hours. I'm sure November will be a different story.

1300: In the category of sometimes it is the little things that make you happy. How 'bout that new four way stop sign? Could have used it when the Things were younger and crossing at this point in the road was a risky proposition. Eager to see how many high schoolers they nab when they start zooming through it once their school starts back up. KaChing Kaching: the sheriff should make his quota with tickets!

1515: 3rd grader....you know what that means. Endless attempts at Hot Crossed Buns...or whatever that squeaky tune is they play over and over.

1930: These goof balls decided to share the shower and conserve water. Crazy things (but clean)
2000: Sometimes you just need a little more potty humor to quiet your mind at the end of a long day!

Without facebook...

A couple of the women I know have recently discovered Facebook. I've been on it for awhile and not sure I really grasp/appreciate the concept but I"m trying. Maybe it's because I blog and visit a few different message boards, that I'm not as drawn into its' addictive properties. But I do find it rather funny...

For example, I loved when Facebook asked me to be friends with Dom Chang and then proudly announced we were friends. That's good because you know...we've been sleeping together for oh about 14 years (shh...yeah, I know I haven't even been married 13 years, don't tell my dad, ok?)

I just read where Facebook has announced that Jason Zimmer is now married. That's good to know: since he's got two kids and a woman named Maria Teresa who sort of has been telling all of us that they've been married since, oh, I don't know...dinosaurs roamed the earth?

And should I be jealous that this same Tracey is "now friends with Jen Hendricks". What am I? Chopped liver? Because come on, we all know that Jen is really Mrs. Kravitz. And would you put someone's picture up on your blog if she weren't your friend?

Yikes: I suppose I have caught a bit more of the Facebook addiction than I care to admit...off to see if anyone has written on my wall or sent me a sea garden creature. And well, if you want to be my friend, just ask...I'll probably say yes (unless you are that exchange student from Taiwan that goes to school at my alma mater. He's like young enough to be my kid. I had to decline his kind invitation to be his friend)

8.8.08: A lucky day to turn one

Keeping in line with highlighting other people's kids, how about another shout out to Mrs. Kravitz' youngest son, Little Man O! He's the BIG ONE today and we just love him to pieces (Thing One has this thing for all creatures littler than him!)

From the "other kids are funny" file

The Things have a buddy. He's a nice kid, bright boy, very observant. Perhaps a bit too observant. His mom asked him how his new teacher was and he said "Well Mom, how do I put this into something you'd understand? She's not the best wonton on the platter if you know what I mean!" The kid is only 10! And since I know the teacher in question, I have to say he's pretty accurate in his assessment.

Then there is the cutie that belongs to TZ. I saw him at school yesterday and asked him how his day was going. "Better, Miss Martha". "What do you mean better? what happened?" "Well, at lunch TWO girls tried to kiss me. But, it's ok now because see...they aren't outside. I'm all good now!". This one? Not even 6 yet. And in defense of these girls, he is is rather adorable and kissable (but I'll stick to giving him Zac attacks).

Invitations 101

When sending out an invite to a Summer BBQ, it is always a good idea to include your name and address somewhere on the invitation.

I know...details details details...but sometimes it really is all in the details!

One week down

First week of school is winding to a close. All in all, it has been a good start to a new year of school for the Things. Thing One has adapted the quickest but he also is the one who does best with the routine and structure. Thing Two is doing ok, just not liking the "in school" rules of the house. And Mom? Well, I did ok too. Did a little bit of this and a little bit of that...and in the process realized I totally love being home for my boys when their day has ended. For now, it is where I belong!
